PANAJI: The Aam Aurat Admi against Gambling (AAAAG) has demanded that the government should get rid of all casinos, including six offshore casinos within four months.
"We demand that you (chief minister Manohar Parrikar) rid Goa of all the casinos including the six offshore casinos, which are presently anchored in river Mandovi in four months and not four years," AAAAG said in the memorandum submitted to Parrikar.
Speaking to TOI, AAAAG convenor Sabina Martins said that the river Mandovi today looks like a casino river, because these offshore casinos have not only clogged the Mandovi river, but completely changed the landscape of Panaji jetty. Panaji today looks like a gambling city because of these eyesores stationed in and around the jetty.
"We demand that the Horse shoe casino which is presently anchored in Mandovi without requisite permissions, be sent out of Goa immediately," she added. Martins also said that the casinos in Goa are an avenue for all vices, be it prostitution, drug trafficking, circulation of fake currency, money laundering and other evils. Gambling addiction, destitution, crime has hit the Goans hard.
