Menlo Park (California), April 4:
Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and chief executive of Facebook, said
the company has developed new software to showcase the social network on
mobile devices powered by Google’s Android operating system.
“You’re going to
be able to turn your Android phone into a great social phone,” said
Zuckerberg. The new interface, called Facebook Home, places a heavy
emphasis on photos, much like the recent changes made to Facebook’s news
feed feature on the Web.
Current users of
Android phones will be able to download the new software through the
Play Store, Google’s application marketplace, starting on April 12.
The software will
also be featured on phones made by HTC, in four colours. “We think this
is the best version of Facebook there is,” Zuckerberg said.
