Calcutta: Unable to proceed beyond
the group stage in the Ranji Trophy and a crushing defeat in the Vijay
Hazare Trophy semi-final, Bengal have once again flattered to deceive.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 Trophy,
though, provides them with one last opportunity to finish the season on a
positive note. Precisely, Bengal’s bowlers have had to carry the bulk
of the workload this season, with their batsmen failing to deliver on
most occasions.
However, according to pacer Shami Ahmed,
focus should be on ending the season on a high instead of pinpointing
the faults of others.
“As bowlers, we have to do the job asked
from us. We have an important role to play for our team’s cause. In the
end, it boils down to how you contribute towards the success of your
team.
“Being a member of the Bengal squad, I
need to do my best in every match to bring success for Bengal,” Shami
said before their departure for Agartala on Friday.
“True, our batting has not been too good
lately. But this is a new tournament and we’re confident our batsmen
will put up a much better show. We trust their abilities,” he added.
The 23-year-old, though, feels that the
presence of Ashok Dinda would certainly have bolstered Bengal further in
this Twenty20 meet.
