Marketing whiz Vashu Bhagnani is coming out with two films with only a week in between. First, Priyadarshan's 'Rangrezz' with Jackky Bhagnani and Priya Anand on March 21, followed by Sajid Khan's 'Himmatwala' with Ajay Devgn and Tamannaah on March 29.
Asked about his confidence and optimism when it comes to doing something like this, Vashu concedes that he doesn't remember the last time any producer came out with two films in as many Fridays. "We're releasing Rangrezz on the night of Thursday, March 21; it's a youth movie and 75 to 80% of school and college exams will be over by then. Since I have the film ready, why shouldn't I use that slot myself instead of leaving it open for another film?" he asks.
As for Himmatwala, the producer explains, "March 29 is Good Friday, and Sajid and I had decided to release the film on this date. It's an entertainer for all sections of the audience, in multiplexes and single screens. Songs like Nainon Mein Sapna, Tathaiya Tathaiya are already a rage and Bum Pe Laat will be a hit number too."
The filmmaker is pleased that his son Jackky has acquired Korean artiste Psy's chartbuster Gangnam Style for Rangrezz. He says, "The credit goes to Jackky. A number of stars and filmmakers were keen on getting the song, but Jackky's conviction and perseverance ensured we were the ones who finally got the rights."
The trade circuit is already dubbing Bhagnani as the producer of the month with two releases coming up. Earlier, he was called Producer number 1 for his films with 'No. 1' in the titles (Hero No. 1, Coolie No. 1) that did very well commercially. The producer, who has had 20 releases so far, attributes his release strategy to his instincts and calculations. "Biwi No. 1 was releasing at the time of the cricket World Cup. I had calculated why people would come to watch the film. Even now, I'm confident of my math."
